As a parent participation preschool, LCP keeps costs low and adult-child ratios high by having parents work in the classroom and participate as a teaching assistant. Some of the participation responsibilities include:
Parent Participation:
a) Working in the classroom when scheduled (approx. 2x’s per month) arriving 20 minutes before and staying 20 minutes after to clean classrooms.
b) Providing a daily snack for your child
c) Attending field trips
d) Attending class meetings
e) Participating in any fundraising
f) Donating 4 maintenance and 4 enrichment hours per year
g) Paying the appropriate fees
Teacher Visits:
Before school begins, your child will have a chance to meet the teacher and visit the classroom in an informal setting. This activity usually takes place the week before school starts. Check the calendar for dates and times.
Parent Meetings (3):
Before school begins, you will be required to attend a parent orientation meeting #1. We will discuss the philosophy and structure of our program, and meet your child’s teacher and other parents. Plan to stay about 1 hour. A couple of weeks into the school new families will be required to attend a parent orientation #2. You can ask questions about the program and you will learn the schedule and procedure of being a working parent in the classroom. The third meeting required is to learn about our annual Pancake Breakfast fundraiser.
Grill & Chill Fundraiser:
This is our major fundraiser for the year and participation is mandatory. It is generally held on a Saturday in April. The Grill & Chill Fundraiser is planned, set-up, run, and cleaned up entirely by parents. Each family is required to sell 20 or more tickets.
Repair/Clean Up Days:
These work days are scheduled three (3) times a year to maintain and improve the classrooms, grounds, and equipment.
